Curtis Eller's American Circus
The wild-eyed vaudevillian’s rock 'n' roll songs describe a dream-like vision of American history.
Date: Thursday 10 April
Venue: Assembly Room
Tickets: £10 / No concessions
Having spent a decade toiling away in the musical workshops of New York City, songwriter and the craziest yodelling banjo player this side of New York, Curtis Eller, pays a rare visit to the UK with his American Circus band for a night of knee-slapping, stomping, fun and music.
Past recordings have seen a ghastly parade of historical luminaries, from Abraham Lincoln and Buster Keaton to Amelia Earhart and Joe Louis. The latest incarnation of the band has spent a year sharpening their skills in the burlesque houses, beer halls and underground theatres of the Carolina Piedmont, and this time, listeners will be treated to a fresh collection of show tunes past, dance fads and gospel music whose lyrics are populated by two-bit fighters, Hollywood has-beens, grave-robbers and forgotten pop-stars.
Entry Price: £ 10.00
