Bobby Hassell's first league goal for more than two years gave Barnsley a vital 1-0 win at home to Watford at Oakwell on Saturday.
Hassell came on for the injured Rory Delap on seven minutes then headed in Jacob Mellis's fine free-kick on 35 minutes.
The victory kept the Reds two points above the relegation zone and made it six points from a seemingly difficult week against Brighton and Watford.
Like they did against Brighton, the Reds chased and hassled the high-flying Hornets who barely tested Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele.
Two minutes before Hassell scored, Jason Scotland missed a fine chance when he was through on goal but put his shot too close to Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond.
Chris O'Grady was once again impressive but he and Chris Dagnall missed good chances to double the lead.
Reds boss David Flitcroft said: "I am completely buzzing. After the Brighton game, we set out a gameplan for Watford. We got up close and personal, put them under pressure and returned with three points. It's a pleasure to manage this football team at this point."
