Barnsley under 18s will play their FA Youth Cup third round tie against Oxford United at Oakwell on Tuesday after it was called off for the third time at Thame United’s ASM stadium on Wednesday night due to a mix-up.

The fixture has been moved to Barnsley and the game will start at 7pm. The winner will host Stevenage in the next round.

Thame, who are in the Hellenic League, played a rearranged match on Tuesday night which Oxford did not know about. This left the pitch in an unplayable condition and the match was cancelled at 5.45pm by the referee after the young Reds had travelled down.

This was the second time the team had made the three-hour trip south as the match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch just before Christmas and Barnsley did not even travel to the first fixture earlier in December due to a frozen pitch.

“There was a misunderstanding between Thame and Oxford and it was very disappointing after we made the trip down for the second time,” said assistant academy manager Mark Burton.

“The lads’ parents and a few fans had come down and it was a shame that they called it off so late. It was just very unprofessional and messy."
