Rugby club end losing run

Barnsley RUFC ended their run of three Yorkshire League One losses in a row with a 24-20 win at North Ribblesdale on Saturday.

The Shaw Laners produced a much-improved performance to secure their first away win of the campaign. Andrew Appleyard kicked 14 points while young winger Will O’Loughlin and captain Dave Reed scored tries.

Appleyard put Barnsley ahead on 25 minutes but Ribblesdale responded soon after. The Shaw Laners scored the first try of the match three minutes before half-time when youngster O’Loughlin crossed over.

The visitors were 8-3 up at the break and increased their lead early in the second half through an Appleyard penalty. The hosts responded with their first try but missed the conversion and were 11-8 down. Barnsley opened up a ten-point lead when Reed scored and Appleyard converted but Ribblesdale fought back with another try to make it 18-15.

Appleyard calmed Barnsley nerves with two more penalties and a 77th-minute unconverted try for the hosts was not enough as they fell four points short.
