Kennedy signs for Reds

Tom Kennedy

Left-back Tom Kennedy has signed for Barnsley on a short-term deal until January following a successful trial.

The 27-year-old has been at Oakwell for the last two weeks and played in the development squad game against Wigan on Monday.

Keith Hill said: “Tom Kennedy is a player I know well. He could give me cover for Scott Golbourne.

“He has a wand of a left foot which he showed at Wigan on Monday when he set up John Rooney to score.“

Hill signed Kennedy, 27, for Rochdale from their local rivals Bury in 2007. He was part of the side that earned promotion to League One in 2010 before signing for Leicester City. He struggled to get into the Foxes’ team as he played 11 times in two seasons.

Hill brought Kennedy back to Spotland on loan in 2010 before the defender had two spells at Peterborough. He has been a free agent since he and Leicester came to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract last month.
