Barnsley cricketer Azeem Rafiq has been named in the England Elite Performance Plan (EPP) squad for their tour of India.
The 21-year-old off-spinner, who writes a column for the Chronicle, will be joined in the 17-man party by former Barnsley CC batsman Gary Ballance.
Both players have enjoyed wonderful seasons with Yorkshire who reached the Twenty20 final and got promoted to Division One of the County Championship.
Rafiq told the Chronicle: "This is a massive honour for me. I have a lot of confidence in my ability and would love to get into the full England side but I will keep my feet on the ground and just keep enjoying my cricket."
The EPP will shadow the full England team on their tour of India from the end of October. Those who impress will be part of the England Lions tour early next year.
Rafiq and Ballance will first play for Yorkshire in the Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa.
