Ashley Ward believes Barnsley need to start well and agitate the Ewood Park crowd if they are to get a result at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
Ward, who made the journey across the Pennines to join Rovers in a record £4.5million deal in 1998, reckons the Reds can come away with a result against his former club.
He told the Chronicle: “Blackburn still have players from the Premier League and have a quality side but I found with both Barnsley and Rovers that it’s not easy when you are relegated from the top flight because teams come to surprise you.
“Barnsley will look to shock Blackburn on Tuesday and come away with a result.
“If they can start well and put some pressure on the crowd and get them disgruntled then they’ll have a chance. An early goal would be fantastic.”
