Cricket club prepare for final with two wins

Sunday 9th September 2012
169 not out: John Trower

Barnsley CC finished third in the Yorkshire League with victories in their last two matches ahead of their Knockout Cup final on Sunday.

The town team will face Driffield in the final at Shaw Lane, the scene of their two victories against Doncaster and Harrogate this weekend.

John Trower produced a superb performance on Saturday as he carried his bat with a wonderful 169 off 171 balls against Doncaster. The opener hit 19 fours as Barnsley made 266 for eight.

After tea, Ryan Hercules took five wickets as Doncaster fell short on 206 for nine.

On Sunday, Barnsley defeated league runners-up Harrogate by five wickets. The visitors were bowled out for 159 as Graeme Whiles struck four times and there were two wickets for Hannon-Dalby, Hercules and Ali Jahangir.

Barnsley then chased down their target with the loss of five wickets as Trower again top-scored with 50.
