Barnsley's under 21 development side went down 3-2 to an impressive Birmingham City outfit at the Oakwell academy on Monday afternoon.
City took the lead in spectacular fashion through Callum Reilly, who blasted in a 35-yard screamer which gave Lukas Lidakevicius no chance after 22 minutes.
The Reds equalised on the stroke of half-time as Danny Rose latched onto an Erico Sousa pass to slot home.
After the break, Birmingham regained their advantage when the strong Akwasi Asante broke through and blasted the ball past Lidakevicius.
But brave Barnsley again battled back into the game, equalising for a second time through young full-back Matty Steade, who headed in a Rose cross.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, it was City who stole the points with ten minutes to spare as the impressive Akwasi beat two defenders and blasted in at the near post.
Barnsley went close through Noble-Lazarus and substitute Rhys Oates but visiting 'keeper Nick Townsend ensured City were victorious.
