Barnsley have this week signed up promising youngsters John Stones and Paul Digby on long-term three-year deals.

The club is also in talks with Jordan Clark and Danny Rose over longer contracts while David Perkins has been offered a year’s extension to his current deal which expires at the end of this season.

Full-back Stones, 18, impressed during pre-season and put in man of the match performances against Rochdale in the Capital One Cup and Middlesbrough in Saturday’s Championship opener.

This week he was called up to the England Under 19 squad for September’s friendly against Germany.

Boss Keith Hill told the Chronicle: "It’ll be good to have these young players who are from in and around the Barnsley area representing Barnsley Football Club.

“We are delighted to have them on longer contracts and to see John Stones called up to the England Under 19 squad and to see Paul Digby on standby is a double reward for the work that’s been done here.”
