Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick has become Keith Hill's fourth signing of the summer and joins the Reds on a two-year contract.
The 25-year-old stopper was released by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer and will join last season's player of the year Luke Steele and youngster Lukas Lidakevicius in the goalkeeping department.
Alnwick is from the north east and began his career at Sunderland before moving to Spurs for £900,000 in January 2007. But the England under 21 international played just three times in five and a half years at White Hart Lane and spent time on loan at Luton, Leicester, Norwich, Carlisle, Leeds, Doncaster and Leyton Orient.
Alnwick told the club website: “I’m happy to be here. I’m out of contract so I’ve been looking for a club and it’s great to come here. I’m going to try and compete with Steeley (Luke Steele) who is a top ‘keeper.”
“It’ll be good for both of us - pushing each other every day.”
