Olympic hopes: Adele Lassu

Barnsley pair Luke Cutts and Adele Lassu both finished fourth at the UK Championship that was held in Sheffield over the weekend.

Both athletes are hoping to make the 2012 Olympics in London and were just centimetres away from gaining medals at the English Institute of Sport.

Cutts, 24, from Thurnscoe, produced a pole vault of 5.45m, which put him ten centimetres behind winner Andrew Sutcliffe. Cutts' long-term rivals Max Eaves and Steven Lewis cleared the same height but had fewer failures so finished in second and third.

Lassu, 22, from Royston, cleared 1.79m in the women's high jump. She was just three centimetres outside the medals and 12 behind winner and former world champion Jessica Ennis.

Both athletes will now be working towards the UK Olympic Trials in July.
