Shaw Laners cruise past Ripon

Barnsley RUFC first XV maintained their five point lead in Yorkshire League Two with a comfortable 35-3 success over Ripon at Shaw Lane.

Neil Robinson gave Barnsley the lead after just three minutes when he touched down after a good break from Arron Gaunt. Patrick Jensen missed the conversion but soon added a penalty to make it 8-0.

Excellent forwards work enabled Barnsley captain Dave Reed to crash over before Andrew Appleyard made a superb 40-yard break then fed Andrew Smith for the third try. Ripon scored a penalty but trailed 20-3 at the break.

The second half was closer but Jo South powered over for Barnsley's fourth try in order to secure the bonus point.

Another Jensen penalty and a fifth try completed the win for the Shaw Laners.

Barnsley are five points clear of Bradford Salem who also gained a bonus point win and have a game in hand on the Shaw Laners.

Wath-Upon-Dearne's match was called off so they are 12 points behind Barnsley in third.
