Rhys Oates netted twice as Barnsley Academy under 18s beat local rivals Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at Oakwell on Saturday morning.

Barnsley took the lead on 17 minutes when Brad Abbott recieved the ball after a fine run by Jordan Clark and fired a powerful shot which was badly fumbled over the line by Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Wall.

The lead was doubled when after half an hour when Oates ran onto a good pass from McCauley Shillito and smashed the ball from the right hand corner of the penalty area into the top left of the net.

Barnsley dominated the match and could have extended their lead as Danny Rose and Matthew Steade both had one-on-one efforts saved and Abbott hit the underside of the bar.

Oates was a constant threat and eventually made it 3-0 when he tapped in from a yard out following a fine run and cross from Clark.
