Local football round-up: Wombwell tame the Force

Danny Joynes scored a superb hat-trick as Wombwell Main reached the semi-final of the Sheffield Senior Cup for the second year in a row with a comfortable 4-1 win over Aquaforce.

Athersley Recreation have also made the semi-finals after they won 4-0 at West Melton-based Westville.

Aquaforce's County Senior League side had better luck as they won 2-0 at Hallam Reserves to reach the semi-finals of the Rosehill Press Cup. Kevin O’Connor and John Smith curled in stunners to secure victory for the visitors who play a league below Hallam.

Jordon Lodge netted six times as North Gawber continued their goal-laden season with a 17-0 cruise at Horse and Groom of Sheffield in the South Yorkshire Amateur League. They are currently three points clear of local rivals Aquaforce who battled back from two goals down to defeat third-placed Queens Head at home.

Penistone Church stayed top of the County Senior League on goal difference with a 3-1 success at home to South Kirkby. They are currently on 35 points along with Athersley Recreation and Stocksbridge Park Steel but are top with the best goal average of 35. Rec moved closer with a 6-0 thrashing of Millmoor Juniors.
