Barnsley RUFC 1st XV scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to gain a crucial victory at local rivals Wath-Upon-Dearne.

The success extended the Shaw Laners' lead at the top of Yorkshire League Two to five points and created an 11-point gap between them and Wath who are outside the promotion places in third.

Wath won at Shaw Lane in October and looked likely to complete the double as four first half tries put them 22-12 up at the break.

Steve Mason, Martin Bray, Matt Burrows and Josh Bird scored for the hosts while Andrew Smith and Neil Robinson kept Barnsley in the game with tries.

In the second half, a penalty try for the visitors reduced the deficit before Barnsley captain Dave Reed powered over to put them in front.

Both those scores were converted by Paddy Jensen who then slotted a fantastic drop goal and a late penalty to secure the victory.
