Chris Dagnall admits he was surprised that Barnsley decided to sign him but is ready for the step up to the Championship.
The 25-year-old striker scored 60 times in 178 games for Rochdale, the majority of which were under Keith Hill who has now brought him to Barnsley.
Dagnall, who is expected to be handed his Reds debut at Leicester, said: “It came as a real shock and I certainly wasn’t expecting it as I knew Barnsley had been doing so well.
“After seeing the facilities at Barnsley and spending a few days in training with the lads I know this is a good move for me.
“I know the manager wants us to avoid relegation, but I believe we can push on up the table.”Dagnall, who netted 54 times at Rochdale under Hill and David Flitcroft, is looking forward to working with the management duo again.
“I’m a hard worker and that’s what I’ve come here to do. I already know David Perkins and Scott Wiseman from my time at Rochdale and Jimmy McNulty from Scunthorpe, so hopefully I can fit in well with the rest of the side.”
