Wale heartbroke after fight cut short

Josh Wale said the result of his latest fight at Hillsborough Leisure Centre 'was hard to take' after he was forced to retire after three rounds. Wale was beating Harry Ramogoadi after three rounds but a cut on his left eye and a swollen right eye meant his corner had no choice but to pull him out of the fight.

Wale said: "I wanted to carry on but I have a big fight in eight weeks which is more important than that one so there was no need to risk making the eye injury worse. I was gutted because I had won all three rounds. I did not need to take the fight but because lots of people from Barnsley had bought tickets I did not want to let them down.

"I was naive. He kept rocking back onto the ropes and inviting me onto him and then he was headbutting me on the blindside of the referee. My style is to go straight for my opponent but looking back, maybe I should have stood back a bit and brought him away from the ropes. This is the first time I have come up against a fighter like this and I will learn from these tactics. When you have won all three rounds it is hard to take when you lose the fight because of injury."
