Jobs may go to pay for schools
By MIKE COTTON
TEACHERS and other staff could be made redundant to help pay for Barnsley's new schools.
Penistone Grammar has a deficit of more than £500,000, partly due to its contribution to the new Advanced Learning Centre which is under construction.
Staff were asked to consider voluntary redundancy and all other secondary schools are facing similar budget situations.
Director of Education Edna Sutton said it was always expected 'efficiencies' would be needed.
She said: "What we have to remember though is that the end result will be some of the finest schools in the country."
