EDWARD Sheerien pupils took the bait at the first inter schools fishing match in Barnsley.
Their team took home the silverware from a tournament at the Fleets Dam on Thursday in which 12 out of the borough's 14 secondary schools took part featuring 60 pupils.
It is the thought to be the first tournament of its kind and was so successful it has been scheduled again for next year. Due to the amount of interest another match may be arranged before then.
Chris Bentley, a geography teacher at Edward Sheerien, is a level one NFA coach and organised the match after setting up an angling club at the school last year.
He said: "This is the first time that Barnsley schools have been brought together for a competition. Fishing clubs and matches have taken place in individual schools but not all too often.
"The fact that this is happening is great and there is a buzz about the school and the fishing community in Barnsley."
The Edward Sheerien team, Lewis Chadwick (captain), Scott Foster, Jason Yates, Ryan Christon and Troy Wood came first winning the Rockingham Trophies Cup with 55 points.
Holgate came second with 52 points and Penistone Grammar third with 47.
