A SINGLE mother who is raising her baby nephew as well as her own four children has been nominated by her best friend as carer of the year in the Proud of Barnsley awards.

Stacey Vose, of Croft Road, Kendray, fought to become the legal guardian of her nephew Leland, who is nine months old because her sister was unable to look after him.

As well as Leland, Stacey is also bringing up her four children - Carson, three, Harvey, seven, Bailey, nine and Troy, 12.

She said: "He was only 3lbs 3oz when he was born nine weeks early and he was really poorly. As soon as I saw him in the special care baby unit with all the tubes going in an out of him, I couldn't let anyone take him."

Stacey has been put forward by her best friend Erika Taylor, who said in her nomination: "She puts everyone, and does everything, before herself. She's a credit to everyone who knows her and she deserve recognition for going above and beyond."
