A WOMAN who buys unloved and unwanted vintage furniture and gives it a new lease of life has been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award.

Nicky Barlow, 37, of Wheatcrofts, Barnsley, set up Nicky B Crafts in August last year and buys the furniture from charity shops and brings them back to life with paints and fabrics.

She has been nominated in the new start up category by her friend of 22 years, Victoria Clarke, of Castle Street.

In her nomination, Victoria said Nicky sourced the furniture while her two children were at school, and renovates them on an evening.
She added: "Her style is vintage shabby chic and she keeps her prices low to suit her customers.

"She loves the whole process of giving a piece of unwanted vintage furniture a new lease of life and has even turned items like tennis rackets into a wall mirror. "To Nicky, the possibilities are endless."

Nicky B Crafts is currently in the process of moving from the Emporium on Peel Street in Barnsley.
