How dad's club bowled up for historic victory

MAPPLEWELL & North Gawber Crown Green Bowling Club was the first local club in decades to win the Yorkshire Cup when they beat Spen Victoria in the 1965 final.

John Overend, of Royston, submitted a photograph of the victorious team with the trophy. His father, Peter Overend, was in the team. John had watched him play from being only five years old.

They reached the final again in 1966, but this time they lost. Shortly afterwards the team disbanded.
