Mining interest

MINING memorabilia caused a great deal of interest when it went under the auctioneer's hammer at Wilby's sale held at Milton Hall, Elsecar, at the end of June.

A silver medallion presented by the National Association of Colliery managers made £260 and a Yorkshire branch colliery manager's gold fob was sold for £310. In addition, a silver fob relating to Birdwell Colliery and three others sold for £220.

A mixed offering of over 700 lots created a lot of interest with collectors and dealers alike.

A Royal Doulton "Tyg" by designer Frank Butler, made to commemorate the General Election of 1880 was sold to a local collector for £320. The same buyer also paid £440 for a Doulton Lambeth vase by another famous Doulton designer Mark V Marshall.

In the furniture section, an oak and mahogany long case clock with a 30-hour movement sold for £330.
