Beware the Beast is back

Former Barnsley player Jon Parkin returns to Oakwell on Sunday with Preston North End. The Ardsley-born striker came up through the youth ranks at his hometown club and made 13 appearances (nine starts) for the first team before the then manager Steve Parkin allowed him to leave. He has gone on to enjoy a successful career as a striker and Barnsley fans will be hoping their former Academy graduate does not return to haunt them. Current manager Simon Davey is well aware of his threat. He said: “He’s got two goals in his last three games and he is a nuisance. He is difficult to play against, he is big, strong, powerful and although he’s not the most mobile, if you put the ball in the box he can finish. Hopefully, I have a centre half in Darren Moore who is just as big, strong and a bit more mobile.”
