FOLLOWING publication of a photograph of Ardsley Welfare Bowling Club 1953, we heard from Peter Ward who lives in Keighley.
"What memories this brought back as an active member of what was the youngest team in Yorkshire."
Mr Ward has identified some members as: back row, left to right: Alan Brooke (second member after himself to be selected to play for Yorkshire), George Barks, Albert Brown, Lawrence (Lol) Brown, Frank Harrison, Granville Barks, Harold Parkin. Front: Robert Taylor, Hedley Kilner, Fred Brooke, Reg Plews, Robert Taylor (jnr), Michael Watson.
The photo was submitted by Ada Rhodes, although Peter and his brother Bernard were elsewhere when it was taken.
"I would like to thank Ada for the happy memories this photograph brought back to us."
Mr Ward was in Yorkshire's away bowling team between 1958 and 1968 with others from Barnsley, including John Bissell and Raymond Green (Mapplewell Welfare). He is a former lecturer at Keighley College and now plays golf.
Mr Ward would like to hear from former bowling club members and anyone else who remembers him. Please contact Kath Parkin, as above.
We also heard from Mel Harrison who said Ardsley Bowling Club team members Frank Harrison, George Barks and Grenville Barks were relatives. George and Grenville Barks were father and son, as well as the Taylors, both named Robert. Albert and Lol Brown were brothers as were Alan and Freddie Brooke.
Ardsley Bowling green looked after by greensman Herbert Parry, was one of the best in South Yorkshire at that time, he said.
Mr Harrison regularly followed the bowling club team and a highlight was when they won the Henry Taylor Cup.
We also heard from one of the surviving team members, Alan Brooke.
