At 97, is Phyllis the Chronicle's oldest reader?

AT the age of 97 Phyllis Lockwood believes she is the Chronicle's oldest reader.

She's been scanning the columns of the paper since her parents brought her to Barnsley when she was aged eight.

Her wedding photograph appeared in the newspaper in August 1936 and a story marking her 90th birthday was published in the Memories column. "I have always enjoyed reading the paper," she said. "I look forward to the editorial and the letters page, plus news about Staincross where I live. "Over the years I do not think there have been any dramatic changes in the newspaper, apart from the price. Because I have lost some of the use of my hands, I would prefer that it was a smaller size these days. "But otherwise it's a good newspaper." *The Chronicle is celebrating its 150th anniversary in October. Are there any regular readers who are older than Mrs Lockwood? If so, please phone 734206.
