THE Yotar Sports football teams from the 1950s to the 1970s were highly-successful.
The team, formed in 1950, represented Yorkshire Tar Distillers of Stairfoot, and appeared in numerous finals, winning several trophies and taking runners-up spot on umpteen occasions.
Yotar, which competed in the Barnsley Works League, the Barnsley Junior League and, later, the Barnsley Association League during that period, won every possible trophy, with the exception of the Barnsley Beckett Hospital Cup, although they reached the final twice.
Several seasons later, they won the Doncaster Premier League, the Premier Knock-Out Cup, Doncaster Challenge Cup and the Mexborough Montagu Cup and the Wombwell Walton Cup.
One of their finest achievements was when they beat Lowshire Amateurs in the final of the 1953-54 Sheffield Junior Cup. It was the second time in three years that the cup had been won by a Barnsley team, Kendray Sports having earned the distinction the previous season.
