Monk Bretton streets in 1900

GEOFF Graham is researching his family tree and is keen to obtain a photograph of the houses in the former Castle Row, Burton Road, Monk Bretton. His grandfather, John Henry Graham, lived at number 3 Castle Row and Mr Graham has supplied a splendid photograph of him as a young man wearing a bowler hat and taken in 1900.

The houses were demolished many years ago, but it's thought they were still standing in the 1960s. Mr Graham's father, Harold Graham, was born in Castle Row in 1910. Mr Graham, now almost 70, left Barnsley when he was 20. Now living in Lincolnshire, he said: "I am desperate to find a photograph of this unique row of houses for inclusion in my family history project and I would be delighted if anyone could help by supplying one."

Mr Graham is hoping to have some copies printed for family members and, possibly, for Barnsley Archives.

If anyone can help Mr Graham with this project, please contact Kath Parkin, Barnsley Cnronicle, 47, Church Street, Barnsley. S70 2AS.
