Oxspring praised for outstanding care

A SCHOOL has been praised for the outstanding care pupils receive and given an overall rating of good in an Ofsted report.

Inspectors said Oxspring Primary has a ‘strong family atmosphere’ and rated it outstanding in some categories.

The inspection carried out last month highlighted pupils’ excellent behaviour and the report says: “They work enthusiastically, thoroughly enjoying the lively and active learning opportunities teachers provide.”

Headteacher Kath Evans said it was a wonderful achievement for the school.

“We are delighted with the report because it emphasises the outstanding features of the school and areas we pride ourselves on.

“The inspector was immediately aware of the happy, friendly atmosphere where everyone is respected and encouraged to develop their individual talents.”

One criticism of the school was that more able students were not always worked to their full potential. In the report inspectors state: “More able pupils, throughout the school, do not have enough opportunities to use their high-level literacy and numeracy skills in other subjects, because some things are insufficiently challenging.”

Inspectors also said the reading and writing in reception, year one and year two could be improved but that the school was taking action in these areas and deserves its good local reputation.
