Pub may still be demolished despite protest

By Ed Elliot, Penistone Reporter Friday 5th September 2014
AN UNDER-THREAT pub may still be demolished to make way for a new supermarket despite a delay in the planning process.

Almost 1,000 people signed a petition to stop the closure of The King's Head at Mapplewell, with the Darton Lane site earmarked for a Sainsburys Local store.

Members of Barnsley Council's planning board have concerns about the proposed access to the site and will visit the pub, owned by Punch Taverns, before making a decision.
