Barnsley scout to head to Japan

By helen williams, Hoyland Reporter Wednesday 3rd September 2014
SCOUT Jennifer Doran is preparing for the adventure of a lifetime - the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan.

Jennifer, 13, of Hill Street, Elsecar, is fund-raising to go to the event which happens every four years. She has to raise £3,200 before the ten-day trip at the end of July, 2015.

Horizon Community College student Jennifer will join tens of thousands of scouts and guides from almost every country in the world in Kirara-hama, Japan.

She is being supported by organisations including Hoyland Common Salvation Army which is holding a coffee morning to help her on September 6.

The jamboree will include a visit to Hiroshima and Tokyo and a stay with a Japanese family. "It's the opportunity of a lifetime, meeting people from different countries and understanding other cultures," said Jennifer.
