End of era for Oakwell announcer

By Katia Harston, Chief Reporter Friday 1st August 2014
Pd49494-2 David Clayton

HE'S been part of the match day experience at Oakwell for more than 10 years but next season Barnsley's official announcer David Clayton won't be on the pitch - he'll be in the stands cheering the lads on.

Lifelong fan David, 52, of Limes Way, Gawber has been informed he's being replaced by Jason Thelwell as part of a shake up at the club.

"Jason did the job before me and he's great at it," says Dave, who is known or shouting 'Come on' down the mic at every game.

Dave said the highs of the job came when Barnsley reached the FA Cup semi-final against Cardiff in 2008. And the lows? Well it had to be last season's relegation.
