Simon speaks about Capital exit

By Katia Harston, Chief Reporter Friday 27th June 2014
Pd38998-007 Simon Hirst

SIMON Hirst shocked listeners of his daily Capital FM Yorkshire breakfast show last Friday by announcing he had made the tough decision to leave.

Hirsty, who lives in Dodworth, has been waking Yorkshire up with his Hirsty's Daily Dose show for more than a decade and over the years earned himself a loyal following of listeners.

He announced his departure last Friday on Facebook and Twitter.

** We have an interview with him about his exit and what prompted his decision in the Barnsley Chronicle newspaper, dated June 27. **

Posted by stephen I Fri 27th Jun 2014 at 11:02am

we cant get a copy here in Brighouse

Posted by Craig I Fri 27th Jun 2014 at 11:05am

If they put it online and all people wanted to know was this. Why would you buy the paper? They need attention grabbing stories to sell papers. I'm sure after the paper is out someone will post it somewhere.

Loved the show. Miss hirsty want to know why. I would happily buy a paper but can't here in Hull. So publish online and be fair to all original dose listeners across the county and not just Barnsley

Hirsty, missing your vibes already.........it's not the same without you. Adam O'Neill needs to go back to his own slot.......

Will this article be available online at some point. Contrary to Craig's comment, I doubt that anyone will be posting hundreds of copies out to all the people not living in Barnsley

Posted by Sally Mitchell I Fri 27th Jun 2014 at 2:53pm

Posted by carl Wilkinson I Fri 27th Jun 2014 at 10:39pm

Believe or not the article was no surprise. Got the paper as my wife took me away to hotel not far from Barnsley for birthday calypso Cove. So was dying to read this article. No fall out with capital or anything like that..he left for health reasons. Was gettin and feeling tired all the time getting up at 4.30am every morning. Losing his mum and uncle in just a year if that wasn't enough. His family has a history of heart problems and he said to himself he shouldn't be getting tired at his age of 38. So he thought the time is right to call our quits and chill out. 85p the paper cost and the article was poor and small

Much as I used to love listening to Hirsty on the drive to work in a morning and miss his gritty humour I admire him for having the strength of character to make such a tough decision... Good luck and good health for your future path wherever it may lead you mate
