New medical centre to be built

By stephanie daley, Assistant Editor Tuesday 24th June 2014

A NEW £1.2m medical centre which will serve more than 5,000 patients is being built in Barnsley.

Dodworth Medical Centre is being built on Woodland Drive, off Broadway, and is expected to be completed by autumn.

Three GPs will be based at the new surgery which will have disabled access, a community cafe and parking. There will be various clinics, including ante-natal, baby, asthma and stop smoking, and a pharmacy.

The new centre will replace the existing medical centre on Dodworth Road.

The single storey L-shaped building has been designed by Race Cottam Architects, of Sheffield, and will be clad in pale grey brick and varying shades of green render and will be next to a large public open space.

I would just like to correct this story by saying the surgery moving into the new medical centre off Broadway is Dr Amjed Ali's 'Dodworth Road Surgery' from 91 Dodworth Road and not the similarly named 'Dodworth medical centre' which would imply the surgery at High Street Dodworth. There is also unfortunately, no café to our new medical centre as stated here. But we hope the new facilities especially the disabled access's and parking will be a valuable asset to the new build, of which we would have struggled to provide at Dodworth Road.
