Facelift announced for Alhambra Centre

By Katia Harston, Chief Reporter Tuesday 17th June 2014
New Glass Front For The Alhambra

THE Alhambra is being given a facelift with a new glass frontage replacing the red brick entrance on Cheapside.

The upgrade will open up the centre by allowing more natural light into the building and will keep it in line with the ongoing proposed modernisation of the town centre.

It is expected to take up to four months to complete, which will include removing the first floor mezzanine and upgrades to the glazed area.

Centre manager John Tarrant said: "We are all very excited about the latest development at the Alhambra which is the first in a string of proposed changes for the venue over the next three years."

He said building works will not impact on access and people will be able to shop as normal throughout the construction period.

Surely if they remove the first floor mezzanine we can't access the market from there any more? That was a handy door ...

There is nothing wrong with The Alhambra, why don't they put money to good use, like paths that need doing for disabled, coz most of the paths if your in a wheelchair, ya cant get up them. roads that need doing,

I think that it is great to see the proposed work go ahead. However, a cleaner town would be the biggest improvement.3148
