New roundabout for Stocksbridge bypass

By stephanie daley, Assistant Editor Thursday 22nd May 2014

WORK to build a new roundabout on the Stocksbridge bypass has started.

The new roundabout, being installed by the Highways Agency, will improve access to Stocksbridge steelworks to accommodate the town's new Fox Valley development, which will include a supermarket, housing and office space.

A reduced speed limit of 30 mph and the use of narrow lanes will be in force for the duration of the project, which will be completed in September.

All lanes will remain open during peak hours but temporary traffic lights will be used when necessary between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day.

Overnight there will be a series of closures of the westbound lane and diversions will be in place.

the highways agency are a complete and utter joke . putting a roundabout on the bypass is asking for trouble as its going to slow lorries down or make them stop completely if theres traffic coming from stocksbridge and if its fully loaded will take a lot of time to get up to speed again and as its a SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY on that section some people will loose patience and overtake which I fear will cause fatalities . the speed cameras were put up to reduce fatalities as there had been quite a few and now the idiots at the higways agency do this . its 1 calamity after another with this agency as their last hair brained idea was the closure of the m180 which led to chaos ! as will this.
