CHILDREN in Barnsley are getting fatter as they get older, as new data reveals the scale of childhood obesity in the borough.
The latest figures from the National Child Measurement Programme show more than a fifth children aged ten to 11 are classed as obese in Barnsley - 21.7 per cent.
This is significantly worse than the England average of 18.9 per cent.
Coun Gill Carr said: "The more officers dug the more the issue grew. It was like setting the Hiroshima bomb off."
