'SAVE our club, please,' was the message from disappointed youngsters following the final meeting of a village youth club.

Thurgoland youth club closed its doors last Thursday after long-serving leader Margaret Denton retired with no one willing to replace her.

"They need somebody with a bit of youth about them and enthusiasm and energy that I don't have any more," Margaret said.

Almost 20 children aged nine to 14 are affected by the closure of the club, which meets on Thursday evenings at the youth centre next to Thurgoland village hall.

Club member Eleanor Lomax, 13, said: "Margaret is the kind of person who makes a youth club.

"We're all really disappointed and want someone to replace her."
