Go ahead given for town centre enforcement scheme

By Katia Harston, Chief Reporter Tuesday 15th April 2014

PROPOSALS to introduce fines of up to £500 for anyone caught abusing the facilities in the square outside Barnsley Town Hall have been approved.

The tough new rules will apply to anyone climbing the sculpture, stunt cycling, skating and putting contaminants like washing up liquid in the fountains.

Coun Roy Miller said many enjoyed using the facilities but there have been instances where the square has been abused.
The new bylaws will be enforced by police.
