A PHARMACY assistant who feared she would not be able to have children because of cancer treatment as a child has given birth to the fifth generation of a Penistone family.

Gemma Sykes, 22, and partner Michael Bann, 26, welcomed 7lbs 13oz Georgie-Ava Bann on March 20.

The new mum, who works at Clark's Chemist, Market Place, Penistone, underwent chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma aged six and was told she may not be able to conceive.

"I think I'd just set myself up for the worst," she said.  "I know they're all special but she's extra-special to us."
