Town centre mushroom to go

By Lynsey Bradford, Town Reporter Thursday 3rd April 2014

THE plinth in Peel Square and the 'mushroom' in Cheapside will be removed this summer as work begins on the £41m redevelopment of the town centre.

The outdoor market stalls will move into the main precinct ready for Christmas and will remain there for at least three years.

The mushroom canopy and benches, and the stone plinth will go to make way for the temporary stalls.

Well....another case of Barnsley Council wasting money. Apart from being a meeting place for Barnsley's drunks and Drug takers, the plinth has been used for absolute zilch. This council has been neither use or ornament since the debacle that was the regeneration of the town centre in the early seventies. We the Barnsley public must get things changed at the next local elections.
