SOUTH YORKSHIRE Police and Crime commissioner Shaun Wright walked the streets of Goldthorpe last week to find out how crime is being reduced in the town.
Commissioner Wright visited the police station and then walked around town with two councillors and the Barnsley Council tasking officer Allan Sneddon.
Partners have managed to reduce antisocial behaviour, fly-tipping and dog fouling in residential streets. Section 12 orders have also allowed the police to confiscate alcohol from anyone found drinking on the streets.
He said: "Goldthorpe is sadly one of the more deprived areas of South Yorkshire with many local residents unable to find work in a community that was once so full of life.
"It is very encouraging to hear that with the hard work of all involved we are now seeing a 14 per cent reduction in crime."
