By Mike Cotton, Town Reporter Monday 13th January 2014

A van crashed into a tree near Birdwell this morning.

The 25-year-old driver suffered minor injuries in the crash at about 7.30am on Rockley Lane.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended as the driver had initially been trapped in the vehicle, but managed to make his own escape.

The road was closed between Pilley Lane and Round Green Lane until about 9.30am.

This was a friends brother.... he slipped on ice and went into a tree, not going too fast. Doesnt matter how fast your going if you hit ice!

;) Were you in the van with him? Other than that its "hearsay" evidence. If he had been driving appropriately to the road conditions at the time, the damage would have been minor and the driver would not have been trapped in the vehicle. This clearly suggests that speed and inexperience is a contributory factor in this instance!!!
