Library campaigners will sing protest carols through town

Save Our Library campaigners, who marched from the Alhambra Centre to the Central Library

Campaigners will sing Christmas carols with alternative lyrics about the closure of Barnsley Library at a protest in town on Saturday.

A march will assemble at 11am outside the Alhambra Centre.

Marchers will hand in a giant Christmas card to library staff in appreciation of their hard work.

There will be a campaign meeting in the library at 12.30pm.

The petition against plans to demolish the library to make way for a new sixth-form college has more than 11,000 signatures. It will be handed to the council next week.

The proposals include relocating the library to Wellington House on a temporary basis. A new library is planned in the town centre as part of the long term market redevelopment plan.
