It's a case of the V. Early bird catching the worm - or rather first place in a charity run.
Vicky Early, 41, was true to her namesake as the first person to sign up for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity's annual 'Run in the Park' event and as such will have the privilege of wearing the 'number one' vest for the 10k dash.
Vicky, of Windmill Road, Wombwell, signed up for the event to say 'thank you' to staff at the Sheffield hospital for caring for mum Janice Turton after she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.
Although Janice died in December, aged 75, Vicky said the care she received was 'fantastic'.
She said: "It all happened very quickly, but the nurses at Weston Park were fantastic throughout and so I wanted to say thank you to them by trying to raise money by competing in my first ever run.
"My mum doted on my son Aidan and when I told him I was doing the charity run he asked if he could too as he wanted to help make people better.
So Aidan and my husband, John, will be taking part in the 3k fun run on the day as well."
Vicky said that, although she had never run a race before, she had taken to jogging after losing two and a half stones with Slimming World but stopped when her mum was diagnosed.
"I'm looking forward to running my first mile," she said.
