Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis his written to the Prime Minister to tell him about the alarming number of people using food banks in Barnsley.
Mr Jarvis visited the Gateway Church food bank last Thursday and said it was clear from talking to those running the food bank that the need for charitable support will become greater and greater as people's circumstances become increasingly desperate.
In the letter Mr Jarvis said the efforts of Pastor Mark Reasbeck and volunteers were inspiring and the care and compassion they showed for disadvantaged people was deeply moving.
But he said the increasing number of people using food banks was a cause for deep concern and that no individual should have to rely on charity to feed themselves and their families.

It is without doubt that the people of Barnsley should be under no dissalution that the people of this town are being starved back into work by the inept Government of the social elite,
Taxes on bedrooms, and now a tax on the unemployed who are on Council tax benefit are destroying the welfare of the people.
Rents up
Council tax up
Water rates up
Electricity and gas up
Food up
petrol up
Social Security Benefits capped at 1%
This is the worst government in history in its treatment of the people it is supposed to serve. People in Barnsley and all over the country reduced to begging for food while the Government pays out 12 thousand million pounds in Foreign aid. We starve to feef the world.
Millionaires get a tax cut whilst the plebs recieve a 3% "pension increse" what is effectivly an addition of 3% to income tax, placed upon us by stealth.
We the people starve , but look at the faces of the cabinet, all bloated with the food they eat for free. Duncan Smith claimes £39 for his breakfast whilst telling a man he has to live on £71 unemployment benefit.
Its sad when the people of Barnsley and elsewhere have to endure the persecution that this government persits in placing upon us.
The worst government in history.
I couldn't agree more, and it's good to see some comparison between the amounts of foreign "aid" poured into the coffers of v are now faced with now face various bottomless pits around the world, whilst many of our own people are increasingly having to rely on charity handouts. Plus the savage cuts which our services are now facing. All those responsible should stand trial for treason against our nation (and its people)!!!!
Sorry, my comment appears to have got just a little bit minced up (I probably pressed a wrong button somewhere or other, but I think that the sense of it still comes through.)
Worse than the previous Labour Goverment Bill? I don't think so!
What a load of rubbish bill. The previous Labour Govermet has left this county in a mess. When will barnsley people realise Labour haven't done much for this town either!
I do believe that both governments can be blamed to some extent for the state of affairs at the moment. Particularly since they seem to be more terrified of losing the so called "talent" in the banks than looking after the welfare of the people in this country!
If it was not for extent to which the austerity measures have been enforced on the workforce of this country, many people would not have to resort to using the foodbanks to feed themselves and their families!
