Protesters lobbied the local authority's budget setting meeting yesterday in an attempt to save council-run youth services.
They were calling for the authority to reconsider making cuts to the youth service and out-of-hours learning network for youngsters.
As councillors made their way inside, the protesters chanted and waved placards such as 'Barnsley Council show some guts - vote against Tory cuts'.
A spokesman for the group, George Arthur, said: "This Tory government is making cuts that are affecting us in Barnsley and what they are doing is wrong.
"This Labour council should be standing up to it, they were elected to make things better.
"They are acting as rubber stampers for Eric Pickles who wants to see us ground down in the gutter."
