Barnsley teenager struck by truck on M1

A Barnsley teenager is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a truck on the M1 this morning.

 

The 18-year-old, who has not been named, was walking north on the southbound carriageway around junction 34 at Tinsley viaduct at around 11.40am.

A spokesman for the police said it is thought he ran across the southbound carriageway and onto the central reservation, before then attempting to run across the northbound carriage way.

 

He was hit by an LGV on the northbound carriageway and has sustained serious injuries.

 

The M1 was closed in both directions for around two hours after the collision.

 

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 359 of 14/01/2013.
