Rally champion Dave Hemingway brought Barnsley College engineering students up to speed about his sport.

Local businessman and two times RAC rally champion Dave showed students round a professional rally car, a Ford Escort.

He owns the vehicle which has been used in various professional competitions and brought it in to show  students the differences between a standard car and a rally car.

Dave raced the car, purchased in 1987, to third place when he took part in the 2012 Robert Albert Clark (RAC) rally competition - a three-day 200-mile race through the forests of North Yorkshire to Dumfries.

Level 3 Motor Vehicle student Tom Peacock said: "I really enjoyed looking inside the car and talking to Dave. It was a great opportunity for me to learn more about different types of cars."

Matt Coggins, the College’s Motor Vehicle Tutor, added: "It's not often that we have a visit from a professional rally car driver, so it was great for the students."
